$500,000 Northern Wisconsin Ecofootprint Grant Program


Lumberjack RCD & Enbridge are pleased to announce a two-year, $500,000 grant program to provide funding to municipalities, tribes, centers of higher learning & 501c3 organizations to help protect and restore the natural environment in and around areas affected by Enbridge's Line 5 Wisconsin Segment Relocation Project. Projects have been chosen and projects will develop throughout 2024. Project site MUST BE LOCATED in one or more of the following geographic areas:

  • Tribal Lands of the Bad River Band of Lake Super Chippewa
  • Tribal Lands of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa 
  • Ashland County, Wisconsin
  • Bayfield County, Wisconsin
  • Iron County, Wisconsin

Each project MUST establish meaningful objectives and metrics to demonstrate success related to the Funding Priorities listed next:

Funding Focus

 

Projects that can show one or more of the following will be given priority in the ranking process. 

  1. Improve surface water quality in counties and tribal lands crossed by Enbridge’s Line 5 Wisconsin Segment Relocation Project.
  2. Conserve or restore sensitive environmental resources.
  3. Advance science related to threatened and endangered species or declining species populations.
  4. Foster environmental stewardship in local communities.
  5. Address other environmental issues most relevant to local communities, such as those identified in watershed plans or local comprehensive plans, including tributary erosion, habitat loss/degradation, and invasive species.

Project Guidelines

 

Each Project Proposal shall demonstrate:

  • How the project aligns with the funding priorities described above;
  • The activities and anticipated ecological results;
  • Strong evidence-based merit through adherence to established best practices, data-driven results, and Indigenous Knowledge (a body of observations, oral and written knowledge, innovations, practices, and beliefs developed by Tribes and Indigenous Peoples through interaction and experience with the environment;)
  • Competitive project costs;
  • Experienced project teams and partner engagements;
  • Detailed plans for pre-and post-implementation monitoring to document habitat improvements and other project outcomes;
  • How Enbridge Account funds can be leveraged or matched (applicants will be encouraged to show 1:1 match. Those who do may receive higher ranking;)
  • How the Project compliments existing conservation lands or restoration projects;
  • How the applicant has the capacity to accomplish the Project in a set time frame.
